And so we always appreciate those and we give listeners a shout out on future episodes of the dislove podcasts. So thank you to all of you who've already left us those five star ratings. We appreciate those. And for today's show we will be joined by Kelly from karma&kismet designs. Her shop includes a wide array of products from stationary and art prints to home decor and apparel. She also has a really great blog with a lot of downloadable items you can use at home or for planning your next Disney trip and her signature design has the classic Mickey balloons, which always makes me think of magic kingdom. So on today's show we're going to be talking about a topic related to magic kingdom and what is probably one of our favorite things related to Disney trips. Kris, all the food. Yes. So we're going to talk about quick service restaurants at the magic kingdom and some of the best options that are available. We'll talk about most of the options, but some of the good things that you can find at these and they're really not in any particular order. Maybe at the end after we've talked about it. We'll maybe pick what our favorite may be if we had time to go to lunch or dinner for a quick service. The first one is cosmic Ray Starlight cafe, and this isn't tomorrow land. This one is, I always think of it, it's kind of open all the time. They have it open during the parties. They often have special tea items at the parties. Um, they have the different sections where you can get, so everyone in your family can kind of have what they want or you, do you remember cosmic ray, Kris with the, yeah, so they have barbecue and burgers and all the way down to like hot dogs and of course things for the kids. One of the nice things is if you get a burger, they have a tapping bar there and it's such a huge space. There's always somewhere to go and it's always fun if you sit in the main room where Sonny eclipse, he has, he's the alien who plays the piano and he has all kinds of cute jokes and nice song. So that's kind of a fun little thing to do when you're at cosmic rays and it's huge. Like that restaurant you can usually always find seating in, which is nice. Even during the holiday parties, as I mentioned, they utilize it where sometimes it be open. I know during the Halloween party I got a burger there one time at the Christmas party when we were just there this past year. They always have one of the snack stations there and they had the dance party there with the big polar bears. Such a great space. They always have something going on and if you haven't had a reservation for a meal and you need to get something, you're probably going to be able to find a spot there. So cosmic ray's, Starlight cafe is a great place to go. If you're looking for something and it is over by tomorrow land, depending on what entrance you go in, it's near the Speedway. The second one is be our guest now, Kris, what did you think about be it so be our guest is sit down at dinner and then you can do quick service breakfast or lunch. Now we've not done breakfast there, but what were your opinions when we've done lunch there? You like it? I love the beast. The beast comes up to see you. That's only at dinner. Well, the food is brought up by the robot. Yeah. What do you means is if you do the preorder, which is something that you definitely would suggest for the during the quick service meal on the my Disney experience, 30 days out from your dining date, you can book your meal and then that way you don't have to stand in the line and you do make a reservation for the quick service. But if you don't reserve your, select your meal items ahead of time, you'll have to stand in a line once you get there. So I suggest going ahead and through the my Disney experience app, 30 days out, pick your items for your meal. We are actually getting ready to be about 30 days out from the time that we're recording this. So in a few days we'll be picking our lunch meal for be our guest and they have all kinds of nice stuff. They have a French dip sandwich. They have of course the classic gray stuff, cupcake and lots of different things. The variety of sandwiches, the breakfast we've not done, but I've heard that that quiche is really good and there's some other things on the menu. I wouldn't say that this is the best quick service anywhere, but you get a chance to experience the ambiance of be our guest. And if you're not on the dining plan where you have a sit down meal or now that that's two credits, maybe it's too many credits or maybe you're just on the quick service plan or you're not in any Dini.
:ng plan at all, still gives you a chance to check out Beast's castle, see the library room and the East wing and the big ballroom and all of those things without paying that higher ticket for the dinner. So this is kind of nice. And there I've heard that the breakfast is good. As I mentioned, we haven't made it there yet. We're usually not in the parks early enough for breakfast. So be our guests is another great option. Of course, this is over in fantasy land and then moving on from Be Our guest. Another great option is Pecos bill, tall tale in and cafe. Now, I will say that we have liked Pecos bill for many years, but I don't think aside from being at one of the parties, we haven't went there for a meal since they've switched completely over to the like TexMex style.
Speaker 1:We used to go there a lot when it was uh, they had the burger bar. Now it's of course Southwest food, so it's in frontier lands, very close to splash mountain. They have fajitas and tacos and nachos and they do have, um, usually some sort of burger is on the menu. It has, uh, quite a big seating area as well. Air conditioning, which is always helpful in the hot, hotter months. I was going to say hot summer months, but there's other months in the year that can be quite warm. In Florida, they also have outdoor seating, which can be nice if you're there in one of the more comfortable times a year. I've always heard that it's great to get the nachos because they have a toppings bar where you can get all kinds of great toppings for your nachos. The only thing is they used to have guacamole on the bar and then they took that away because I think it probably people when a little, we're a little too free with how much guacamole they took, so they don't have guacamole on the toppings bar, but lots of other things. A lot of people rave about the nachos, which I know somebody who likes nachos you. Oh yeah, so they have beef, pork, and chicken. Now here's a tip that I found on budget mouse, which I think this is a pretty good tip. Listen to this tip. If you don't want to spend the nachos, this is early 2020 they range around$12 and 50 cents but let's say you want to just kinda create your own. You can order a side of chips for four 99 get a side of queso for a dollar so that you're up to$6 and then add things from the topping bar. So you're about half the price of the nachos with meat on them. But it's a good, I would think that if you're not a huge meat eater or you're just wanting a good snack, that sounds like a great value. So I'll make sure to include a little link to budget mouse in their tips about that. They also, I've also heard that the kid's nacho portion is pretty good there, so that can also be a good option if you're not super hungry in, remember at Walt Disney world at the quick service you can order a kid's meal unlike it, some places where you can't, they have rice bowls and some other options as well. So Pecos bill is always a great choice. They have a good menu and they have some mobile order options. They're now moving a little bit down. The waste from there is Columbia Harbor house. Do you remember eating at this restaurant? Kris? I know where it sat, but I couldn't really tell you eating there. Okay, so they have a little bit of a different menu they have, it's more seafood inspired, but they also, like, I'm not a super huge seafood fan, but they have some options for me. I always like to get one of their sandwiches. Usually I get the tuna sandwich. They have salmon with couscous and broccoli. And so they have some different options that you might not typically get at a quick service. And then of course they have fried fish and fried chicken. You can preorder with the my Disney experience app, which we've done this before. We actually ate here when we did the Christmas party, when we're there for our vow renewal planning session, we did like we did the mobile order and we went in and then you just walk up and it's all ready for you to go at the counter. You all ordered the foods? Yeah. But you enjoy the food of course. So Columbia Harbor house is another great option. So you have be our guest Pecos bill, cosmic rays. And then there's a couple of more that we've not really eaten at for a meal. But a lot of people rave and say, there are great options. Now, where do you always, not a meal, but where do you always make a little truck to, you might not remember the exact name, but what do you always go get at magic kingdom? Oh, one of those ice cream sandwiches. Yeah, so sleepy hollow in which is in Liberty square. Kris likes to go over there for a cookie sandwich. I think last time you had a chirro sandwich. Yeah, so they some sort of ice cream concoction he goes to get, but a lot of people say that their waffle sandwiches are really good. I've been interested in wanting to try. They have a chicken waffle sandwich. They have a fruit and Nutella waffle sandwich, which also looks like a great option. So that's something that people also mentioned. I'm Gaston'sTavern. We have had drinks there, we've had loafers brew, but a lot of people talk about going there. You can get at breakfast, they have the cinnamon rolls that are really big. They have snacks like veggie cups and hummus and things like that. So if you want kind of a lighter lunch or a light breakfast, that can be a great option. And of course they have those great frozen drinks. And here's a tip which I would say we are not Starbucks people. I mean I'm just not a coffee drinker. Kris, we live in the Midwest and he drinks Tim Horton's coffee a lot, but a tip that I found on a couple of websites, which I think is a great tip, I think I may even try it out, is that using your quick service, dining credit at Starbucks is a great deal. So you can get any Starbucks sandwich or salad as your entree. And then Disney's added a bunch of, they have Disney theme treats at the Starbucks location. So I know when we were, this isn't magic kingdom, but when we were at Hollywood studios, I've gotten the carrot cake cookie there and they have other like Disney cupcakes and things like that. So you can get a sandwich or a salad, any beverage. So you can get any of the Starbucks beverages, which we know, of course they can be set credits, but Starbucks beverages are expensive when you're out plus a bakery treat. So you figure the value of that. If you were to buy a Starbucks plus buy a sandwich and get like a cupcake, a large cookie there, that is a great option. And what do you, what's your opinion, do you think that would be a good use of a dining credit? Yes. So I think we may try to check that out. And at main street bakery, especially the Starbucks has typically tends to have a decent amount of treats. So those are some really good options that you have for quick service. At magic kingdom, of course there are some other carts and different things like that, but this kind of gives you a general overview as you're planning your next trip. I can tell you it's making me hungry, talking about all of these options and as I think about making our be our guests mobile order of selection. And as I mentioned with a lot of these, you can do mobile ordering on quick service and that's a nice option. There's typically a separate, there'll be a sign in a separate line where you walk up to the counter, you notify on the app that you're there. Usually only wait a minute or two. It's great when there's a longer line or when you're at some of those busier times because you know your food will be ready and you're not having to wait forever for it. So utilize mobile order for a lot of these options. And again, we'll put some links to a few of their menus and different things like that. If you were to pick Kris out of these different ones with a quick service, so we had cosmic rays with the barbecue and that sort of stuff. Be our guest. Yes, Paco spill with the nachos and that sort of thing. What would you in Columbia Harbor house with the fish in that, what would you pick as your favorite be our guests? Is it more the ambience you think? So I would say if I was looking at ambiance, if it's a real busy day, I do like going to Columbia Harbor house. There's a nice second floor. We sat up there, there's windows overlooking, you can see where the like Tom Sawyer's Island in that. So that's kind of a nice relaxing place if you're wanting to get away from the hustle and bustle. And I would say that Pecos bill probably cause I like to have a fixings bar is nice, but really you can't go wrong with any of these options. It really gives you a wide range, a wide array of choices when you're planning your next trip and when you may be at magic kingdom, whether you're on a budget or whether you have the dining plan. This kind of gives you a good overview. So we are now going to shift gears where I moved from talking about food to bringing on Kelly, who's joining us today. Of course we're super excited to be able to have her on the show and have you learned a little bit more about her business.
Speaker 2:We'd like to welcome Kelly to the show today. Her business is karma&kismet and they offer a wide array of products from stationary and art prints to apparel and home decor. Lots of things inspired by Disney magic. She has some really cool products in her shop. And then of course she also has a monthly blog where you can, that features downloadable items that you can use at home. And even on some of your Disney trips. She's a avid Disney fan and kind of grew up in a family that sounds like they're just as excited about Disney as she is and she to Walt Disney world several times a year as well as being a DVC member. And so we are super excited to have Kelly on the show. Welcome today.
Speaker 3:Thank you so much. I'm so excited to be here with you guys.
Speaker 2:So we always like to start out with an icebreaker and the question that we have been working with people recently, a recent guests is who is your favorite character to meet at the parks?
Speaker 3:Oh, this is a tough one, but I think I would have to say I'm, I love when I get to see different characters. Um, you know, it's always fun to see the classics like Mickey, but when you see that like random character walking down main street, that's really cool. So last time I was there, I met Abby Mallard from chicken little,
Speaker 2:I know we like when we've gone to some of the parties in that when you can get some of the different ones too, but sometimes the lines are so crazy for those, we don't always wait them out.
Speaker 3:Yeah. They're fun though.
Speaker 2:Yes, for sure. We always like to add some new character to our pictures on each trip. So that is always neat when you find somebody different like them. So we are really looking forward to having you tell us a little bit about your business and what sort of products that you offer that are connected to Disney.
Speaker 3:Yeah. So you did an awesome job explaining it. Um, but it's, you know, pretty much is exactly what you said. I offer a wide variety of items that are all inspired by Disney. So I'm an artist, um, have been, it's kind of the one thing that I can really hold onto as my own. Um, since I was little. So I've been a Disney fan as well and got into, you know, creating Disney art that I then put onto art prints, stationary, um, no pads, greeting cards, working with people for special events to work on their invitations, um, moved into doing some home day course. So I had a lot of like mugs and wall hangings, things like that. And then also, um, apparel. So t-shirts, um, that I've seen actually people wearing in the park.
Speaker 2:That's very cool. I love stationary and I, when I've been looking at your stuff, I'm like, I need to get that. And I have a friend who loves stationary and all of that. I mean, you, your prints and stuff are really neat too, but sometimes it's hard to find some of those like paper products that, that you have, which is really unique.
Speaker 3:Yeah. Thank you.
Speaker 2:You know? And so with that, please just tell us. What was your inspiration to start the business?
Speaker 3:Yeah. So, um, I started the business about a little over five years ago now, and I actually was going through kind of a rough point in my life. Um, all, you know, good things. I was getting my graduate degree, but I got sick during that time and I'm totally fine now. You know, things are under control, but at that time it was really difficult because, you know, I kinda had all these changes going on in my life and I needed something that I could just, you know, escape from. So what I've always gone to is Disney and art and you don't kind of bring those two together. So I started to create a lot of art and I was working, at a small business that was run completely by, um, very incredible women who have just been such an inspiration to me, um, including my mom. And they, uh, you know, suggested, why don't you just put something up on Etsy and see how it goes. So I started on at D a little over five years ago and I've just continued on there. I'm selling my products and then have added the blog in with that.
Speaker 2:Okay. So how long ago did you start the blog?
Speaker 3:So the blog started, um, probably about a year ago. I would say it's been most active for like 10 months. So we're getting out about a year.
Speaker 2:Okay. Wow, that's really, so what kind of inspired you to start doing the blogging as well?
Speaker 3:It's, you know, it's a twofold piece I think, because I was looking for something else. I'm very creative person. I have loved, I always love writing and you know, drawing of course and everything. But sometimes, you know, when you start to take your hobby and make it into a business, it can be difficult that, you know, you kind of start to see it as work. So I decided, yeah, it can be, you know, you got to find that balance. So I looked for something that I could do, you know, to help my business along, but still have a creative outlet. And writing was that for me. So, you know, I started to do blogs and there was some things that I was creating that were, um, you know, I loved the art I was creating but it wasn't at the level that I would want somebody to, you know, pay money for it. So I created these principles that people could download. Um, and it's been a great feeder as well for getting people to learn about karma&kismet, um, by coming to the blog to read about something or to download and then, you know, they find a product or we connect on Instagram or something like that. So it's been a great way for me to be more creative but to also connect with more people.
Speaker 2:Sure. And we'll make sure we'll share links to your social media pages and then I'll make sure to have some links right to where you have some of those printables for people as well as just your products in your store also. Great. So can you tell us a little bit about how do you think that your products offer some Disney magic that our listeners can bring into their lives?
Speaker 3:Yeah. So I think that's, you know, it's what I needed when I was going through the really rough time in my life. I needed that magic to come into my life that I've always, you know, I have at Disney. Um, so that's why I think about when I'm creating something, it's, you know, how is this going to bring a little bit, you know, that, that reminder of that feeling you have when you walk down main street or you get on the people mover, you know, whatever your favorite part of Disney may be. Um, and I try to kind of create things that are a little bit different than what you might find, um, you know, just in the general stores that you go into. Um, so I love to do things with, you know, retro, um, just things like that that, you know, you can bring into your everyday life. And that's kind of where I got into doing things like stationary, um, and coffee mugs because those are my things that I need, you know, so, um, you know, just kind of trying to bring in little ways that you can bring Disney in without it being like, you know, thrown in your face, but you know, it's there and you have that magic or reminder.
Speaker 2:Sure. So what are some of, if you could, if somebody asked you, like, what are some of your favorite products that you have? What are one or two things that you just really would say are your favorites right now?
Speaker 3:Um, I did what started my notepads was this print. I did have the Mickey mouse balloons and it's has have a magical day on it. Uh, and it's probably one of my best sellers and it's also probably one that's closest to my heart. Um, I just, I don't know what it is, but the Mickey mouse balloons that are on main street for some reason, once I see those, you know, my day is made. Yeah. Yeah. And so, you know, in the, the colors that I used in it is very reminiscent of like vintage Disneyland, which I love. I'm a big Disney nerd when it comes to history. So, um, I really liked that one. And then I think too, um, I am actually working on a piece right now that I'm very excited about, um, about some Disney Epcot vintage. So, you know, yeah. So with all these changes going on, um, and with Epcot forever, the fireworks, you know, they, they're really celebrating all these great songs that I grew up with. Um, you know, listening to them on the way down to Florida. So I have a piece that I'm going to be putting out soon actually that's living with the land and um, the, you know, the song that they had in there, so very excited about that.
Speaker 2:That'd be very cool. And Epcot always holds a special place in my heart. Kris, I think he has some other favorites, but we got married there that are, Valerie knew I never, yeah, that's my favorite. And I liked to Epcot even before then. It was always my favorite car. But like, then there's just even more reasons why it's my favorite. So what do we, so what, besides the products that you have in your shop, I know you said that you have quite a few of those downloadable items. If you were to send somebody and you were like, Oh, you definitely have to check this one item out that I have on the blog that you can download, what would you say is your favorite in those areas?
Speaker 3:Yeah. Um, I just did one actually for this month. This month theme was kind of, um, you know, resolutions and everything as we're in the first month of the year. And one of the downloads that I did was, um, a healthy living trap. So I have a lot of friends and I have also been through this where I made this decision, you know, I was gonna walk a certain amount of times in a week or I was going to try to lose a certain amount of weight during each, you know, month or whatever it might be. And I think a lot of times those resolutions we lose because we don't hold ourselves accountable. So this healthy living tracker has, um, it's, you know, Disney themed, so you still have your magic in there. Um, and it's all about there's magic in the journey. So trying to find that and it's images that you can put up on your Instagram and you know, show your success or you know, what you might be having challenges with, um, on your feet or on your story or whatever it may be in a monthly or weekly, um, timeframe. So I know that I've seen people using that, which is really great and I think it's, you know, it's just something that can help you hopefully kind of get over those hurdles that you have throughout the year.
Speaker 2:Well, and I have to say, I had to really, compliment you, my one main kind of criticism with the Disney apparel is sometimes it's a bit too busy and your stuff is very sleek and very modern and clean. And that's kind of a design that I'm attracted to. And so I want to give you props in it. Again, I encourage people to go to the website just to look at, especially what was just mentioned about the healthy living tracker is just how neat to see you using Disney imagery and then something that can be done every day and it's just very clean.
Speaker 3:Thank you. I really appreciate that. Yeah. And I, you know, I hope people do use it and hopefully it helps them along and it's great. You know, last year I did one and I saw a woman who used it at 12 months out of the year, um, and she wound up losing like 15 pounds in a year. So I mean it was a, you know, yeah. And it was incredible to kind of just be a part of that journey with her and kind of be able to share her on as she was going through that.
Speaker 2:And I think the other thing just for our listeners is just to take a look at the website because it does link out to an Etsy site, but there is just things that can be, you know, thank you cards, engagement cards, things that really can have a very unique stamp on that special time in your life that karma&kismet designs can help you with. But with that, please tell our listeners where can they find more about you?
Speaker 3:Yes, so I'm on a few different places on the web. You can go to my website which can get you to everything and that's karma&kismet, designs.com. Um, we are actually karma ampersand, kismet, but if you're going to the website, it's the letterN and then on Etsy, if you just want to search us on there, it's karma&kismet. And then I'm very active on Instagram. So be sure to follow me. And that again i s karmaandkismet
Speaker 2:and we'll make sure to include all of these links in our show notes as well. And Kelly has something special for our listeners. Would you like to share that with everybody?
Speaker 3:Yes. So, um, I want to thank everyone who has been listening and um, you all have such a wonderful podcast so I'm very excited to be a part of it. Um, and I wanted to offer you guys a 10% discount for any listener. Um, and the code is DISLOVE10.
Speaker 2:Awesome. And I will also put that in the show notes so everybody can find that. Make sure there'll be a link right out to your shop and then they can use that promo code and be able to get some of your awesome merchandise. Or not only that too, but you know, going back to the website, please talk more about some of the free downloads that you offer people.
Speaker 3:Yeah, so there is a bunch of different ones. I'm like I said, the healthy living tracker. Um, I also have a bookmark that's on there. Um, that's balanced inspired if you, uh, are gluten free or have any allergies, um, I am gluten free due to an allergy. So when I go to Disney I have to deal with that. So there's a whole guide on there in that guide, there is a gluten free restaurant card that you can actually print out as many times as you want and every time you go to a restaurant you can give that to your waiter so they can pass it on to the chef. So with that added level of confidence that you know you won't have any issues when you're there. But there's a ton of different things. Packing lists, lots of different things that you can check out on the website.
Speaker 2:Awesome. And the gluten free one, my one of my best friends who I traveled to Disney with a lot, she also has a gluten allergy and I know that it's been a lot is of course gluten free. I mean it's friendly for people who have any sort of allergies but it's still all the talking that she has to do. And being able to have a guide a definitely make sure to share that with her for sure because I know that would be a huge benefit and I definitely think that others who have that would definitely would appreciate that as well. Cause I know that can be a big challenge when you travel.
Speaker 3:Yeah, absolutely. It's that, you know, it's just that added confidence that you can have.
Speaker 2:Well, awesome. Well thank you again Kelly for being with us today and we will make sure to get all of your great information out to our listeners and thank you for taking time for being on the show.
Speaker 3:Thank you both so much. I really appreciate it.
Speaker 4:Thank you again to Kelly for joining us today. And again, don't forget to use the promo code does love 10 D I S L O V E one zero does love 10 when purchasing item for her from her shop to save 10% off your order. Awesome. So we really appreciate Kelly for sharing that with our listeners. And now we're onto our final segments of the show with our trivia and our wisdom from Walt quotes. So Kris, you are up with trivia. Awesome. Want me to do a little bit, this is going to be about quick service trivia. It's going to be trivia about quick service restaurants at Disney World according to allears.net And this article was written by Molly McCormick at October 28th, 2019. I like all ears. That's a good website. Yes. So this is based off of Disney visitor reviews. Okay. I would like you to try to tell me, and this is going to be hard. Sure. But tell me the number one ranked quick service restaurant in all of Disney world. So it's all the parks. Correct. I'll give you a hint. It's an animal kingdom. Um, let's go with, um, flame tree barbecue. No, it is not. Um, that one was number five. Okay. Um, can Yeti? Nope, it's not there. And I'll give you one more guest. Sorry. No. Okay. I'm running out. I think you'd call it a Lee canteen. Oh yes. Yeah, it is. The new[inaudible] is the number one rated quick service with 9.2 out of 10 and recommended by 97% of guests. Wow. The second highest one isn't eaten there yet, but we have had their food because we tried some of their food. At our tasting us. And then how do you say is this Kringla Bakeri og Kafe bakery? OG cafe? I don't know about the OJ, but yeah, cream love bank number three is Wolfgang puck express things. Number four, roaring fork in wilderness lodge. I've bought cupcakes there of not eating food there, but then number five was your first guest flame tree barbecue animal kingdom. Look at that. Wow. And again, I want to thank my friend Molly McCormick at[inaudible] dot net for this wonderful top 10 countdown. And again, those are restaurants, quick service restaurants based off of rankings in reviews of people just like us. So I have a question out of the top 10, I know you get the top five. Are any of them the ones from magic kingdom? Any magic kingdom ones that we mentioned? Uh, I don't know. Is there anything from magic kingdom? No. No. Oh, sick. We did talk about Columbia Harbor house. That's interesting. So at least there's one magic kingdom, one and the top 10. Now, I will say this, um, you know, we were on the cruise and I would have to say that the Disney cruise, even the quick-service food is far, far, far, far better than what was on the cruise at the parks. The quick service at the service of the park was far better than the food that was at really an any of the, the crews eat the cast. We key, yes. On the boat. I just, there were certain things that for what you paid for on the boat, you know, again, the high end PCs, they doesn't compete. But I think you just on the day to day food fair, the parks are so much better than the boat. Yes. And what I think they've really spoiled us at the parks because we, they do have such a high bar. Not to say for anyone contemplating a Disney cruise, the food is very good, but it's just not nearly on par with what you expect at the parks. I definitely agree with you on that, that's for sure. So of course, as you guys all probably have out by now, we like
Speaker 1:to talk about food. I'm sure we'll be talking. We'll visit some of the other parks in the near future to talk about quick service options there as well. So let's end out this episode with our wisdom from Walt quote. I think this is kind of a nice one. It talks about success and doing well in what you're trying to do in life. And it says, people often ask me if I know the secret of success and if I could tell others how to make their dreams come true. My answer is yes, you do it by working. That's true. Anything that you want to accomplish, you can. You can do it as long as you put your mind to it and you're willing to put the effort in. And while it really proved that with all of the things that he was able to accomplish in life, so thank you so much for joining us on this episode of the DisLove podcast with Vanessa and Kris.
