Welcome to the DisLove podcast with Vanessa and Kris. I'm Vanessa Ferguson and I'm Kris Johns. We would like to welcome you to show number 24 and for any listeners joining us for the first time, our show features, things we love at Disney and in each episode we usually have a guest who creates Disney magic for our listeners at home or on their Disney vacations from vacation planners to product producers. Our guests bring Disney magic into your life. As a reminder to our listeners, please leave us a five star review on apple podcast. We always like to give these listeners a shout out on future episodes of the does love podcast. We'd like to think all of you who've already left reviews as well as those who have left five star customer ratings. We appreciate those. That helps more listeners find our podcast on apple and then of course reviews on other platforms as well. And on today's show we will be joined by Brittney from Disney by Bee. She owns a shop that specializes in unique Disney shirts and Mickey ears including making custom designs based on your special request. And we get to talk to her a little bit more about that Starbucks lover. She has some really great designs including Special Mickey Coffee ears which are coming soon to her shop. So you want to keep an eye out for that. And Kris in honor of my birthday, which will happen while this episode is out, we are going to be talking about celebrating a birthday at Disney. That's awesome. So we have already talked about some things like ordering specialty cakes and you can go back and look at episode 14 when we talked about group trips. I also suggest looking at the fireworks dessert parties as an option if you're celebrating a birthday or another occasion. That's an episode 21 but in today's episode we're going to focus specifically on some different adult experiences. But some of these also apply for people of all ages. So it may sound simple, but one of the things that we want to talk about is that you want to let people know when you are celebrating a birthday or really any occasion when you go to Disney, when you're making your initial room reservation and with dining. Let them know that you are going to be like when you're checking in a podium for a dining reservation that you made, let them know that you are celebrating a birthday. Another thing is that arrange for cake. As I mentioned in that group episode, we talked about how you can have a specialty cake arranged in. You'll want to make sure that you do that. Now, Kris, we had, we were there for your birthday, this PA earlier this year and we had a cake that I had arranged that was brought over to Ohana. What did you think about that? Did you awesome. And um, I had done that as a surprise for Kris. So he loves Olaf and Olaf is his favorite Disney character, I would think that is correct. And so we were meeting a group of friends at Ohana for dinner and I was able to arrange with um, the KC hotline to be able to have a specialty cake brought over if you have not been there for, um, if you're not there ahead of time, we'll talk about some things that you can do to get a cake even that day a little bit later today. Another thing is to wear a button, even if you're not there in your exec birthday. Really I think with Disney, as long as you're there within the month of your birthday, you can say you're celebrating. We've been there many times where you're a week or two away cause the odds are you may not be there in your exact birthday. So get one of those buttons when you check in at your hotel at guest relations, they'll put your name on the birthday pin. The other thing is to wear a shirt or ears or something to let people know you're celebrating. I know we just got Kris the button when we were the pen when we were there. And I know it seemed like you had a lot of cast members. They have your birthday, of course. Yeah. So it just adds a little magic. You're not necessarily gonna get something extraordinary, extra ordinary, but you might be able to get just those nice happy birthdays. Sometimes you'd get little perks when you're waiting in line and little things like that. So remember, Pixie desk is not guaranteed, meaning you're not guaranteed to have those special extras. But getting some of those little things compared to a regular trip is always nice. Now, one of a nice things that you can do is the specialty cruise in four where you'll have special viewing of the different fireworks show, either at Epcot or at magic kingdom. And we talked about a lot of the different deserved party options in that episode 14 we also looked at the specialty cruises, but when you look at these, one of the things that many people don't know is that you can do what's called a celebration cruise. This is a little bit different than a regular one where you will be able to not only have that VIP viewing in the fireworks, but you also get to have balloons and celebration banners added to your boat. It's a little bit extra, but it's a fun way to celebrate. A birthday. Years ago when I was graduating from college and we did a celebration cruise and it was just congratulations because I had great, we were celebrating my graduation, but a few years ago we did this for my aunt's birthday and it was in January. And what do do you remember much about that, Kris? It was very nice. He was just very chilly. I mean, again, in Florida it gets cold at night. Yes. Plus the water made it a little different, but I think the nice thing is their family experience and they just treated us so well. Yes. And it was quite chilly. But Disney had thought ahead. I mean we had on sweatshirts and things, but Disney had blankets that we were able to use to cover up. So when we're out on Bay Lake and the Chili Wind, we were able to use those. So it was nice and it is, adds a little bit extra magic with that, that celebration cruise option. So not only do you get the regular snacks that they typically put on, which are like chips and pop and different things like that, but you can also add lots of different private dining menu options including personalized cakes, champagne hors d'oeuvres, they'll do all kinds of things like chocolate covered strawberries and you can even have a full meal the boat, which that might be nice I think probably not in January or probably not in the middle of July or August. But if you're in one of those sweet spots where it's Beautiful weather, even in the evenings, I would check that out. I'll put a link in the show notes where you can kind of get some more information about those celebration cruises and the price for a celebration cruise right now, and this is in August, is around three 43 and that includes for 10 people. So it is nice if you have a group that's celebrating your birthday down there, you can accommodate a decent amount of people and they have their, it's an hour boat trip and they leave from, if you're doing a magic kingdom one, if you're staying at one of the magic kingdom resorts, they leave from Contemporary Grand Floridian and Polynesian and then if you are doing an Epcot one that usually leaves from yacht and Beech club. So it's a lot of fun. As Kris mentioned it w we had a great time. Disney treated us really well when we did it and I think we had almost 10 people if I remember correctly. So it, it was nice and you can take advantage of that as a fun celebration for a birthday. Now you don't always have to do something that's outside the parks or at the parks. You can also do an interim celebration and these you can order, there's a couple of different options so you can order directly through Disney floral and gifts. And they have items as small as$50 range up to over 500. So you can really go all out with what Disney does. For my mom's birthday a while back, I don't know, Kris may not remember this, but we had, we had a trip that we went to key west, but we flew into Orlando and we stayed at Disney a couple of days and my dad had arranged for flowers and, M ickey chocolate box that was in the room. And it was a nice little thing for a birthday celebration cause we were there celebrating her birthday. I think it was our fifth anniversary. We were in Florida and I don't know if you'll recall this either, but my parents had arranged, we had like sparkling cider and some things that were in our room from Disney floor. Oh Gosh, no. Well, that's been over five years ago, but so there's lots of amazing things that Disney flouro can do in your room all the way out to like really elaborate like flowers on the bed, balloons, cakes, all kinds of stuff. Now there are also some amazing outside vendors that do this as well and they'll deliver right to your resort into your room. One in particular that I've not used for in-room celebration, but I have used from for some of her, shopping services is pixie dust delivery service. She does in room services ranging from gifts, baths, gift baskets to full experience including like decorations, balloons, cakes, gifts. So definitely do your homework depending on what you're wanting. You may want to use Disney floral or one of the amazing outside vendors as well. And I know, I'm sure there's others out there that you may be able to find if you do start doing some research in the Disney community.
Speaker 2:Yeah.
Speaker 1:Now of course, I think, what would you say is the biggest part of most of our Disney trips or trips in general? Eating. Yes. Eating. So one of the things that you can do is book a special meal in particular as an adult. There's lots of different neat experiences that you can do that you might not do on a regular trip. Now, one that we've never done, but we've had a few friends that have done it and they've said it's awesome. It's doing the chef's table at Victoria and Albert's at
Speaker 2:okay.
Speaker 1:At Grand Floridian, my mind went blank, which resort it is at, so at Victoria and Albert and that is$250 a person, but I've heard rave reviews about it. You can also do a wine pairing, which is another additional cost. One thing that I think we would enjoy, and I've looked at some of our trips, so it's not been available, it's called highway in the sky dine and it goes around too. You kind of have a progressive meal at resorts around the monorail. I think we would enjoy that. It starts out at the wave and we love the wave. We've been there quite a few times at contemporary and then it goes around to, I think there's four stops on it, but I'll put links to all of these so you can check them out yourself. And another thing that's fun is just going to, it doesn't have to be anything expensive or way out of the ordinary. Just booking a character meal or a dinner show is a great experience. Years ago when I was in college, my birthday is in August and I personally don't pick to go to Disney and August because of the heat. But I had a friend, I was traveling with her and we went to the spirit of Aloha dinner show and it was just a couple of days after my birthday and they did some fun birthday things. They had all of us that had had birthdays and think that month come up. And so that was a fun experience. And we also, going back to that trip where we talked about the specialty cruise we took for my aunt's birthday that same day we were at animal kingdom and we ate at Tusker House. And because we, they heard it was her birthday. This one, I'm sure you remember, they brought out all the characters and we got a photo with all of the characters and that was really fun. So it was a great memory and it was just a simple thing. They instead of us seeing all the characters individually, which we did, but they brought them all out and we have a huge group shot with everyone, which was really awesome to have. And then of course what I mentioned earlier and that we have talked about, which I think one of my favorite foods is cake. And Disney has really amazing cake. We've talked about cupcakes that they have and ordering cakes. Now one of the things that you can do is you can do on the spot birthday cake requests. So when you check in, just let the host or hostess know that you would like a cake for your celebration. And they have like just basic vanilla and chocolate cakes. But as Kris can probably attest, it is nice if you can arrange ahead of time and get that special cake that have a particular flavor you want. But if you're just there on the spur of the moment and you want to do it, they also have what are called Micky celebration cakes. These typically it you should give like 24 hour notice are shaped like and Mickey head. They're really cute. You can just call the advanced dining reservation number and let them know what restaurant you're going to be at and they can arrange to have it there. And there's lots of different things as we talked about the custom cake with Kris's off cake, which I will share some pictures of that. But what did you think about your aloft cake? It was delicious. It was delicious and I thought they did a really good job on the Olaf, that was on there. So just some fun things that you can do. And as we mentioned, food's a big thing for us. So if part of your trip is a big thing about food, you would enjoy doing that as well. Now, last but not least, another amazing thing that you can do is just take some time to pamper yourself sometime on a Disney vacation. We don't think about all of the fun things that you can do, including going to the spa. So there are a couple of different spas on property, and then there's also ones nearby that you could go to. There's the census spa at Grand Floridian and Saratoga Springs. I, years ago went to the Grand Floridian one and I've had a massage there and I had a great experience. There's Mandara spa at the swan and dolphin, and I think if you recall, we had went there, we got pictures with Randy Chapman who did our wedding and our engagement and our vow renewal, a bunch of pictures, but we got pictures with him during for one anniversary and we went to Mindera spa and we got some spa services. I know I also got my hair done and stuff, so I thought that was a nice experience at the spa at swan and Dolphin. Agreed. So we really enjoyed that. And then there's also a spa at four seasons. There's one at coronado springs when at yacht club. Another thing you can do, we're not golfers, but if you are someone who doesn't joke joy golfing, um, set up a tee time. There's one that we, there's different golf courses on property. Disney's palm, Disney's Magnolia, Disney's Buena Vista, and then the oak trail golf course. So there's lots of different options you can do. And we've talked about, I'm quite a few episodes going to a movie, something that you can take one of those specialty tours. Um, one of the things that Kris always enjoys and I think he might like on a birthday, oh, I love going to the bowling alley, what's it called? SPLITSVILLE. So lots of different fun things that you can do, things that you might do at home, but it's always better when you're at Disney in my opinion. So these are just a few of the experiences that I would suggest if you're an adult celebrating a birthday, you may even, I'm sure a lot of these experiences are things that kids and teenagers would enjoy as well. But we hope this helps you when you're planning your next birthday celebration at Disney and then up next is our call with Brittney from Disney by Bee and we are really excited to hear from her. We like to welcome Brittney
Speaker 3:to the show. She has a business called Disney by Bee and we are super excited to have her on the show. She started her business as a way to help as she's planning her next trip to Disney and she loves sharing her travel tips and knowledge with friends and family. She has a lot of neat shirts and here is in different things that she's going to be able to tell us all about and we would like to welcome Brittney to the show.
Speaker 4:Hi, thank you guys for having me. It's great to be here.
Speaker 3:We are so excited to have you today and as usual we always like to start out with our ice breaker question. So this week's ice breaker is what is your favorite snack at a Disney park?
Speaker 4:This is such a hard question. My, my actual all time favorite snack isn't even there anymore. I ate, used to be at pizza planet in Hollywood studios and they had this magnificent, massive chocolate coffee kind of, um, cupcake could have been a meal on its own. It was so good and I would make a point to get it every time I was there. But since piece of planets gone, I can't get it anymore. So now my new favorite is a warm cinnamon roll at gaston's tavern is just huge.
Speaker 3:Yes. Yeah. And I think it depends on what park I'm at and even what trip because I love cupcakes too, like where you had mentioned. So depending on if they have a specialty cupcakes, sometimes I have a new favorite. So it is about, I used to love the carrot cake cookie that was at Hollywood studios at the writers stop and then they did bring it back at the, um, trolley Starbucks location. So that's nice. I've been able to get that again, but I know what it's like when your favorite snack suddenly disappears. That is is very sad. Yes sir. Yes. So we would love to hear, tell us about your business and what sort of products that you offer that are connected to Disney.
Speaker 4:Sure. So Disney by Bee, I haven't Etsy shop and if you go on Etsy you can just search for Disney by Bee and it should come up. Um, I offer unique inspired Disney apparel. So primarily I do a lot of t shirts and I also do custom ears. Right now I'm actually developing a few new designs both for tee shirts and also for bags. So I'm going to be doing some tote bags, some small zippered bags. Um, in the future I'm hoping to get into like fanny packs because I love a good fanny pack and they're coming back. Um, when I first started Disney baby, I noticed that not a ton of Etsy shops or, or, uh, Disney inspired apparel stores really had a variety of different products. Sure. I felt like in the past when I was planning a trip, I would buy one shirt from this location and maybe years from this location and maybe a bag or, or an accessory somewhere else. Sure. And my vision is I would really love to have a lot of fun and unique things all under one roof, one place. So that's where we're going. But right now it's primarily t-shirts, and custom ears
Speaker 1:Now we see that you have where you can do like a custom shirt design you offer that for on your Etsy site. So what sorts of things do you see come across?
Speaker 4:Oh man, it's so different. I'm, I'm really happy to work with anybody who has any unique idea. I do try to really stay in that Disney centric theme. Sure. So when, sometimes I'll have clients that will request a custom design for a family vacation shirt. I recently did one where a mom approached me and she wanted Mickey heads. But every Mickey head was a different superhero character. Yeah. So one of them was wonder woman and one of them was Spiderman. So it's actually on my Instagram, I'm on Instagram, I'm at Disney by Bee and B is with two e's. It's B e. So if you go to my Instagram, you'll actually see a picture. I just posted the other day of this family in their custom shirts. Um, but I've had people contact me with their own ideas. I've had people contact me with things they saw on my Etsy shop, but they wanted to tweak it a little bit or customize it. So I'm happy to change any of my current designs, but I'm happy to make something completely brand new and custom, uh, for anybody who wants it.
Speaker 1:Awesome. And do you do, I don't remember off the top of my head. Do you also do custom ears?
Speaker 4:I do, yes. Um, recently I've had a popular pair that are coffee Beens, one of my more popular shirts. Yeah. One of my more popular shirts is kind of like a Starbucks little mermaid mashup. Yes. It says I want to be where the coffee is. Yeah. So I had someone contacted me saying, you know, I would love a pair of ears that kind of coordinated with this, but they didn't want like Starbucks ears or little mermaid years. Sure. So what we came up with was ears that are a coffee Bean print and then a bright green glitter at bowl that goes on top. Oh awesome. As of now those are customer requests, but I'm going to be stocking them in my shop within the next month.
Speaker 1:Oh Wow. Yeah, it's neat. It's gotta be neat to see how some of those requests then end up being something that, you know, lots of other people would want to be able to get as well.
Speaker 4:Yeah. Very cool.
Speaker 5:And you talk about the custom shirts. I have only worn a custom shirt one time with Vanessa.
Speaker 4:Yeah. Yeah. I don't do matching shirts.
Speaker 5:Um, no I forgot it was something for our vow renewal. But I, me as a person, I try to not, that's not my, my speed. I'm not at a matching guy. I'm not really an ensemble per se. Your own individual customer. You definitely could, but you'll, it's just interesting cause I did see a lot of the shirts you mentioned like the custom piece and the family thing. So it's just interesting. But I just want to let you know, I only broke down. He did at one time.
Speaker 4:Maybe I'll convert you one day. Yeah, yeah, exactly. Exactly.
Speaker 5:And so the big piece is really
Speaker 3:what led you to start your business. Like what was that source of inspiration?
Speaker 4:Sure. Well, I've loved Disney my whole life and at this point I think my next trip that we're planning right now will be going in February. I think that's my 10th or 11th time. So I try to get there once a year, once every two years, if not more frequently. And uh, between that, and I've always had this love for creating just, I've had creative energy. Uh, and unfortunately that's not my full time job. I do have a full time job that, you know, my primary career, uh, and I love to, so I'd love to create, I love to make tee shirts. And I recently had kind of a disappointment in my career, in my full time job. Um, and I'm very happy at my job, but something happened that kind of made me take a step back and say, you know what, if I could do anything in the whole world, what would it be? Right. The first thing that popped in my head was like, oh, Disney, right? Yes. Yeah. So my first step was I created this Instagram because I have so much Disney knowledge just floating around the back of my head. Every time a family member or a friend is planning a Disney vacation, they call me, they reach out. They say, what do I do? How do I start? You know, I don't even know what to do first. And I thought to myself, well, I'm already doing this for family and friends. Why not just share some on Instagram? Sure. And so I started doing that. And then in the process of planning my trip, I was making my own shirts and I've had several people approach me and say, wow, those shirts are pretty cool. Would you ever consider selling them? And then I had another light bulb. I said, well, let's just combine this love of Disney to share a little bit of magic in everybody's daily life. Sure. And that's kind of how Disney buddy was born.
Speaker 3:Awesome. Awesome. So has the, have you been doing your business very long or is that something you started this year?
Speaker 4:It's actually fairly recent. Um, I first started Disney by the, I think in beginning of May of 2019 so it has not been very long. Uh, and my official shop has been open since about June 1st, but I've seen a huge, um, huge increase in purchases just since then. So it's been really neat just to see how work spreads and yeah, a lot of referrals coming in and, and you know, the people that follow me on Instagram, the people that purchase from me are just amazing. Yeah. I think everyone thinks this, but I must have the best customers in the world because they're just incredible.
Speaker 3:And that's the nice thing that we found with so many of the guests that we've had on the show, the Disney community on Instagram. And that is really amazing and has been really supportive of so many of the different shop owners. So it's great to hear that you've had that same experience as well. Yes. So tell us a little bit, how do the products that you offer add Disney magic to our art, to our listeners lives?
Speaker 4:Well, my personal style for the products I offer, most of what I sell on my website is not like in face Disney, not a ton of it is like a big Mickey head or a big castle, although I certainly do that and I have those available. Um, I have a few shirts like those, I like things that are kind of tongue in cheek there a little bit. Um, I don't know if this is the right term, but um, like coal classic, kind of underground following things. Sure. Yeah. You know, so if you love Disney and you know, the Little Mermaid, of course, you know, I want to be where the people are, right? So when I created that Starbucks shirt that mash up, you know, if you don't really know Disney, you might not get, I guess over the head, but other people walking down the street, they're like, oh, I see you okay with that shirt says, you know, and there's, there's a lot of my products. Um, there's another one that is actually a star wars rebel alliance logo. Yeah. The two Mickey ears on the top. And if you're not a huge star wars fan, you're not gonna know that that's the rebel alliance symbol. Right. Certainly recognize it as a Mickey head. Yes. Yes. I like those kinds of shirts that you could certainly wear to Disney, other Disney files or going to see them and think they're great, but you can wear them in your everyday life. And you know, for me personally, it brings me a little bit of happiness to where my Disney shirt, it makes me feel closer to Disney when I can't be there in person.
Speaker 3:Right. And that's one of the things that like were Kris mentioned, he's not a guy that's gonna wear a huge Mickey head on his chest, but being able to find some of these unique products that aren't like over the top, he really enjoys where we're able to find little things like that. Like you said, you can wear in your everyday life and it's not kind of in your face Disney. Okay.
Speaker 4:Exactly.
Speaker 3:Yeah. And so with the, I mean you've mentioned a couple of times, please remind our listeners, where can they find you online?
Speaker 4:Sure. So, um, I have an Etsy shop and the direct link is www.etsy.com/shop/ DisneyByBee. And again, the B is with two e's, so it's d I s n e y B y Bee. So you can find me there. You can find me on Instagram again at Disney Bybee and you can also find me on Facebook at Disney baby. I do have a website, Disney buy b.com although the majority of my sales do come through Etsy, I think a lot of people prefer shopping through Etsy. It's a little more convenient, but you can certainly check me out on my website as well. Um, and I'm actually, you know, I am located in the southern New Jersey area. I've started to do some local craft shows and some local weekend fairs. Sure. As we get into the end of the summer, beginning of fall, uh, there's a lot of like town fairs and town days in our area. So if you're in that area, come check me out at a local fair shot.
Speaker 3:Awesome. And we will make sure in our show notes, we will put links to your Etsy shop, to your, we'll tag your Instagrams to make sure that our listeners can definitely find
Speaker 1:you and check out all your great products and we just really appreciate having you on the show. Thank you so much Brittney, for joining us today. Oh, thank you guys for having me. It was a pleasure.
Speaker 5:Okay.
Speaker 1:Again, thank you so much to Brittney for joining us today. We loved hearing about her business and well she makes sure to share all of the information about how you can find out more about Disney by Bee. In our show notes and now we are onto our two minute trivia and our wisdom from Walt quote.
Speaker 5:So Kris, you are up. All right, great. So the theme of today's show is about birthdays. So I'm going to go over some birthdays of the parks and so I'm going to give you a date and I want you to tell me which park opened or had its birthday. Okay. On that day already. You Ready? Okay. And we're going to go, um, so these are pretty easy. July 17th, 1955 Disneyland. Yes. October 1st, 1971 well, Disney, well, technically I guess magic kingdom, right? Yes. Let's just, we're going to keep it high level here. We're not going to get into the town is going to say, you're going to get me if you get into technicalities, right? Walt Disney world resort. You are correct. April 5th excuse me. April 15th, 1983 I think Tokyo. You are right. Okay. Awesome. Oh, you enrolled 12th 1992
Speaker 2:okay.
Speaker 5:Okay. I guess that would be Disneyland. Paris. But you are right. You're, you were basically Euro Disney, I think. Right? Again, we're not doing technicalities here. Um, September 12th, 2005. Oh, that's where it's going to start to get me. Um, I'll give you a hint. Is it Hong Kong? You are right. Oh Wow. Rachel lesions. Wow. Excellent. I'm surprised I got that one. And now this was formed in 1995 and this is something that you love to do and it as an entity, it started in 1995.
Speaker 2:Okay.
Speaker 1:Oh Man, I have no idea
Speaker 5:you're going to have to Disney cruise line. Oh yeah. We're going on one of those later this year. So here's a case that was a tough one. It was, um, this was formerly in Disney world, Sydney Disney from 1998 to 2018 and it was a series of something themed. Restaurants.
Speaker 2:Oh,
Speaker 5:I mean, I know it's not rainforest because rainforest is still there. Um, I don't know. You've got me stumped on that one too. ESPN Disney. Oh, wow. Huh. I would've never get figured that out either. And so that kind of our our birthdays, but it just kind of shows you, um, when you're a Disney fan, like Vanessa, you're going to know when things opened up a Disney. See where you could've gotten
Speaker 1:me as, if you would've went to like animal kingdom, Hollywood studios. That would have really gotten me. But yeah, it's pretty neat to see. And when you start to look at all of the different parks that are out there, that makes me think, because I really want to go to Tokyo. That's on my Disney bucket list, so to speak. But anyways, bringing it back as we always like to do is we're going to end a show with our wisdom from wall without a quote that kind of talked about how Disney is for people of all ages, was fitting for a show talking about birthdays at Disney. So my quote for this week is laughter is timeless. Imagination has no age and dreams are forever. So we hope all of you get a chance to celebrate a birthday one day at Walt Disney world or any of the parks around the globe. And we'd like to thank you so much for joining us on this episode of the does love podcast. I'm Vanessa and I'm Kris Johns
